Whether you already have a part design or need guidance on your blank slate, MAINWAY’s design team can help. Our in-house designers will directly engage your team to increase efficiencies and ensure the most manufacturable part possible.

Die build

Ready-to-Run Stamping Dies Start With a Solid Design

There’s more than meets the eye when it comes to design – part manufacturability, tooling, and production considerations matter. With nearly 45 years of experience, MAINWAY offers a deep understanding of:

  • Progressive dies
  • Line dies
  • Draw dies
  • Deep draw dies
  • Transfer stamping dies
  • Hand transfer dies
  • Compound blank
  • Fine blanking

Based on your part’s application, metal type, and specific manufacturing process, we may provide additional insights and recommendations for the part or die design. You’ll move confidently into production with a final tool design, strip layouts, and bill of materials.

Our Approach | Stamping Die Design

There’s a lot at stake when your new program needs to last a decade-plus. We’ll make you a complex, quick-turn prototype so accurate, you can’t tell it’s a prototype. We test and certify dies in-house, and provide QA and PPAP approval.

Slice 1 - 2023-07-25T110717.621 In-House Everything

Unlike other stamping shops and design facilities, we keep virtually all services in-house – from design to finished part. This approach helps you control the lead time and quality of your custom metal stamping dies.

The Design Process:

You + MAINWAY

1
Show Us What You Have! To ensure both sides understand the project’s requirements and opportunities, we review the part design together prior to die kickoff. From there, we provide a solid model of every design, detailed drawings, and a complete bill of materials, empowering you to make informed choices.
2
Optimize Design

We pore over your die design requirements and tolerances to spot design-for-manufacturability issues and opportunities you may have overlooked. Examples include: material impact on radius achievability, narrowing a side to reduce scrap, accounting for springback, tool cost vs. part production cost, and material yield.

3
Optimize for Manufacturing

We also review your specific manufacturing process to ensure an efficient production line. Topics of scrutiny include: feed, press type, press specs, and post-stamping operations. Both sides continue sharing drawings, with progress reports coming at mutually determined intervals.

4
Verify the Results

We check every box to ensure your die or stamped part design is ready to enter the fabrication stage. This includes on-site technical support and program management, if necessary.
